Built by John Edward Sage in 1856 after obtaining a Crown Grant, Sages Cottage has survived the generations and remains a reminder of the Mornington Peninsula’s pastoral history. This carefully and lovingly maintained and restored traditional timber slab and shingle farm cottage and its surrounding cottage gardens and remnant (and regenerated) bushland is the site of my 8 week artist residency.
During my time at Sages, I aim to make use of the surrounding vegetation and various structural inspirations to “document” this landscape with the goal of producing a body of artworks for exhibition and further promotion of the “mapping country” project.
Sages is currently managed by Menzies Inc, an organisation who provides support for young people in need.
